Join Meredith Alumnae on a Tour of Great Britain
Faculty and staff are invited  to join Betty Webb, ’67, Professor Emerita, Department of English, and former Director of International Programs, and Becky Bailey, Professor Emerita, Department of Art and former dean of the School of the Arts, as they lead Meredith alumnae and friends in exploring Great Britain, focusing on England but with a two day foray into Scotland.  The tour is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2014 – Monday, June 16, 2014.

Enjoy a unique travel experience discovering the rich history and natural beauty of places most Americans never see when touring this “sceptered isle.”  Your travels will be enhanced by the expertise of our guides who have intimate knowledge of the region. And as an added bonus, Meredith President Jo Allen (an English professor herself) will be traveling with us.
Let us hear from you now!  Please contact Cindy Godwin at or (919) 760-8206 for more information.

Reception Honors Martin Marietta Materials for Support of Teacher Education
Submitted by Monica McKinney, Director of Graduate Programs in Education

The Education Department sponsored a September 12 reception for representatives from Martin Marietta Materials Corporation to thank them for their 10 years of scholarship support for students seeking initial and advanced teacher licensure.

Martin Marietta scholarships have helped a total of 71 teachers directly and countless K-12 students indirectly.  Chief Executive Officer Ward Nye and Chief Financial Officer Anne Lloyd joined a number of past and present scholarship recipients for a few brief technology-enhanced classroom lessons.  By sharing their stories, scholarship recipients thanked Mr. Nye and Ms. Ward for their support.

Following this session, we celebrated with more conversation and hors d’oeuvres in the Alumnae House.  The event was a reminder of the positive impact that corporate partnerships such as this can have on our students.
