Meredith College has named Charles L. “Lennie” Barton the College’s new vice president for institutional advancement.
“I am delighted to welcome Lennie Barton to Meredith,” said President Maureen A. Hartford. “He has wonderful skills, experience and education that match extraordinarily well with Meredith College. His knowledge of the people of Raleigh and North Carolina will be especially helpful as Meredith develops stronger connections in our communities.”
Barton will provide leadership in the planning, implementation and administration of Meredith’s comprehensive fund raising, annual fund and alumnae and parent relations programs and initiatives. He will also serve on the college’s senior management team and lead a 15-member institutional advancement staff.
“In Lennie Barton, Meredith found a person who embodies three things that the search committee was looking for: someone who can raise money, who can provide leadership for the entire team in institutional advancement, and who can contribute as a member of Meredith’s senior management team in looking at broad institutional issues,” said Vice President for Academic Programs Allen Page, chair of the search committee.
Barton has more than 30 years of experience in higher education. Prior to joining Meredith College, Barton served as associate vice chancellor of alumni relations at NC State University. Among his most recent accomplishments, Barton led efforts to grow membership in NC State’s Alumni Association from 4,000 to more than 22,000 and helped the Alumni Association raise $22 million to build the Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center.
Barton holds undergraduate and master’s degrees and an Ed.D. from North Carolina State University.
