New Award for Chemistry Majors Established

The Chemistry Department recently received support from Sensors Safety Products, Inc., to present the first two awards honoring student chemistry majors.

Jody Fountain, from Sensors, visited campus on September 27 to announce the funding of the awards, which will be presented annually on Celebrating Student Achievement Day Program. This award recognizes the hard work of students and faculty in the Department of Chemistry. A permanent plaque will be displayed in the Department and the student recipients’ names will be added annually.

The first two recipients are Nooria Razai, ’13, and Melissa Burton, ’11. Razai, who is earning a double majoring in Spanish and chemistry, received the award to honor effort, interest and achievement in the chemistry laboratory. Burton, who is earning a double major in biology and chemistry, was honored in recognition of outstanding research skills and lab citizenship.
