NC Dance Festival to Open Season at Meredith

The N.C. Dance Festival (NCDF) will open its 21st season in Jones Auditorium at Meredith College on September 9 and 10, 2011 at 8 p.m.

The weekend of performances will run two nights, with a different show each night. Friday night’s performance will feature work by Robin Gee, Natalie Marrone, Helen Simoneau, Jen Guy Metcalf and Talani Torres. On Saturday, Courtney Greer, Lindsey Kelley, Caroline Calouche, Diego Carrasco Schoch and Talani Torres will present dances.

Children’s Festival of Dance: As part of the NCDF weekend, Meredith College will also present the annual Children's Festival of Dance on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Festival participants are the Rainbow Company of Raleigh, Infinity Ballet of Apex, North Carolina Dance Institute of Raleigh, Inis Cairde School of Irish Dance of Raleigh and the Meredith Jazz and Tap Company.

Tickets: Tickets are priced at $15 general; $10 students/seniors; $5 for children under 10. There is also a $25 festival pass. The shows are free for Meredith students, faculty and staff. For information and reservations call (919) 760-2840.

This year, three of the five NCDF presenters across the state will be partnering with UNC dance programs to produce the concerts in their communities: Robinson Hall at UNC-Charlotte on September 16 and 17, Valborg Theater at Appalachian State University on October 27-29, and Aycock Auditorium at UNC-Greensboro on November 4 and 5. In Raleigh, the Festival will be held at Meredith College on September 9 and 10, and in Wilmington at the Community Arts Center on February 24-26.
