Meredith to Host Carolinas Psychology Conference April 17

Meredith College will host the annual Carolinas Psychology Conference (CPC) on Saturday, April 17, 2010.

The Carolinas Psychology Conference is a meeting of undergraduate students in psychology and related fields. Students travel from across the Southeast to attend the conference events and to present papers.

David Sherman, assistant professor of psychology at the University of California-Santa Barbara, will present the keynote address. Sherman’s research, which is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, centers on how people respond to information and events that threaten the self. The keynote will be held in Jones Auditorium.

Another highlight of the conference will be a panel discussion on the topic of “Psych Degree: What Now?”. Panelists will include Meredith alumna Dr. Jamye Hickman, ’01, who will discuss engineering psychology, and NC State psychology graduate student Steven Toaddy.

Registration Information:
All persons attending the Carolinas Psychology Conference events must register. A nametag will be provided to all registered attendees.

Participants may preregister online before Sunday April 11. The cost is $10 per person. Simply pick up your pre-printed nametag and program booklet during registration hours in the Atrium of the Science and Math Building when you arrive for the conference. You may also choose to preorder lunch tickets. Belk Dining Hall welcomes you for lunch for a cost of $6.75.

On-site Registration: Participants may register at the conference on Saturday April 17, between 7-10 a.m. or between 1-1:30 p.m. The cost for on-site registration is $15. Only cash will be accepted.Lunch tickets will not be sold at the registration table.

Professional Dress is appropriate.
