Meredith Team Earns 2nd in MBA Case Competition

A team of Meredith College MBA students placed second in the Raleigh-Durham ACG Cup First Annual MBA Case Competition.

The competition was held on February 27 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham. The Meredith MBA team bested third-place finisher UNC-Kenan Flagler, with Duke Fuqua taking top honors.

Meredith’s team consisted of Chris Carrier, Jennifer Jones and Meghan Myers. Participation by the Meredith MBA team was sponsored by members of Meredith's Business Advisory Board.

The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advisory and private equity. Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets and M&A strategic advice to a panel of seasoned M&A professionals from within the ACG community. The competition is carried out through a series of intra-school and regional competitions, with regional winners awarded the prestigious ACG Cup title and cash awards.

Competing teams had just one week to solve the financial case and develop their presentation. While solving the case, the Meredith team maintained their MBA course schedule and their full-time jobs, Chris Carrier at Cooper Tools, Jennifer Jones at RBC Bank, and Meghan Myers at Underwood & Roberts PLLC. Team members will split a cash prize of $3,000 and will receive their award at the ACG Capital Conference on April 14.

Judges for the Raleigh-Durham event were representatives of Fennebresque Partners, Quintiles, ZeeCRO, Triangle Capital Corporation, Smith Anderson and RSM McGladrey.
