Meredith Students Share Their Favorite Places

As part of our summer series of student advice, Meredith’s Office of Admissions asked a group of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors to share some of their favorite places on campus and in the local area.

On Campus

•“The Cate Center -- it's a great place to get food and study.” – Megan Amanatides, ’15

•“The CAD Lab in Martin. This is the computer lab used by interior design and fashion majors. I am always there working on projects, and there is normally at least one other person there to hang out with. —Elizabeth Oates, ’13

•“I love hanging out in the dining hall. It’s a great place to catch up with friends and grab a quick bite to eat.”—Angel Jackson, ’13

•“By the lake—it is absolutely beautiful out there and just a good place to catch my breath and unwind for the week.” –Pooja Ghai, ’13

•“On campus, my friends and I usually hang out in The Oaks or at The Cate Center. This past semester, the Carlyle Campbell Library was open 24/7, so my friends and I lived there for about a week and a half!” —Chloë Williams, ’13

•“I spent a lot of time in the parlor with my suite. It nice to be able to lounge around on chairs and couches.”—Sara Owens, ’15

•“The living room of our on-campus apartment this year. It's perfect for movie nights and dinners and just hanging out.” — Rebecca Jernigan, ’13.

•“My favorite place to hang out on campus would have to be the resident parlors. Just set up shop in a parlor and two things will happen. First, it’s a nice change of scenery and second friends will eventually show up and that’s when all the good times start.”– Christina Barnhart, ’15

Off Campus

•“I love to hang out at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and just walk around, but I also enjoy just going to Royal Bean, a coffee shop across from Meredith. –Kristen Gallagher, ’13

•“My favorite place off campus seemed to be D.H. Hill Library (at NC State) this past year because we spent many late nights there cramming for tests and writing papers.” – Megan Amanatides, ’15

•“My favorite hangout spot beside my off campus job at PNC Arena would have to be Crabtree Valley Mall. I love to go shopping and there are great places in the mall where you can take your laptop and do homework as well. I love my off campus job at PNC Arena because I have been given an opportunity to make new friends and meet people I never thought I would have had the opportunity in meeting if I didn't have this job.” – Kaitlyn Turner, ’14

•“Cookout. My friends and I go get milkshakes all the time. It’s bad on my wallet but tastes great!”—Elizabeth Oates, ’13

•“I love downtown...anywhere. There are so many good restaurants and galleries and things to do there; it is a great place to go and hang out.”— Mary Rawls, ’13

•“I like the Waffle House. A great American tradition with some darn good waffles!”—Hannah Thornton, ’14

•“Crabtree Valley Mall. There is so much to do and explore there.”—Angel Jackson, ’13

•“My friends and I like to go out to eat at different places off campus. Most of the time, we go out to eat somewhere around Cameron Village, North Hills or somewhere in Cary. —Chloë Williams, ’13

•“Off campus, I spent a lot of time at NC State, in my friends’ dorms. We also spent a lot of time driving around, and making late night Cookout runs.”—Sara Owens, ’15

•“Either the Royal Bean or Cookout. We go to get coffee or milkshakes a lot and both have great environments.” – Rebecca Jernigan, ’13

•“I like to hang out at the coffee shop or just walk around in Cameron Village. It’s a very nice place full of great shopping spots and at night they light up the trees and it looks beautiful. – Christina Barnhart, ’15
