Meredith Students Share Their Favorite First Semester Class

For our summer series of advice from Meredith students, the Office of Admissions asked a group of returning students to talk about their college experience.

This week the series is focused on the academic experience. In this installment, we asked students share the favorite classes of the first semester of their freshman year.

• “Honors Principles of Writing with Dr. Colby and Business and Society with Dr. Barnes. Principles of Writing gave me a strong foundation for all of the paper writing that I have done throughout the last two years. In Business and Society we interviewed someone in our chosen career field and did a project on that career. I got to meet with a community leader to whom I would have never been connected, otherwise.— Alexis Trell, ’15

• “My favorite class was probably First Year Experience (FYE) with Dr. Hontz.”—Mary Rawls, ’14

• “History of Architectural Interiors and Furnishings — I loved seeing how they changed and progressed throughout time.” — Jordan Cone, ’14

• “Sociology. I loved this class because I enjoy learning about the ways of society. My favorite part was the feminism chapter because [instructor] Robin Gary’s passion for the topic made an impact on me.”— Jordan Capps, ’16

• “I loved my history class, but that is a given because I love history and am a history major. My favorite class my first semester at Meredith was Beginner’s Karate. This class was amazing because it was so different, and it opened my eyes to the enormous amount of unique opportunities that Meredith has to offer.”—Hannah Thornton, ’14
