Meredith Students Share Their Favorite Classes

Want the inside scoop on Meredith College? Hear it from our students. Meredith’s Office of Admissions asked a group of rising sophomores, juniors and seniors to share some advice that they believe would benefit an incoming freshman.

This week, we asked students a series of questions about academics at Meredith. Today’s question is: What was your favorite class during your first semester at Meredith?

•“Introduction to Psychology was probably my favorite class that first semester. It was incredibly interesting and a girl who became one of my best friends and my roommate was in that class.” – Rebecca Jernigan, ’13

•“Although I loved my history class, that is a given because I love history and am a history major. My favorite class my first semester at Meredith was Beginner’s Karate! This class was amazing because it was so different, and it opened my eyes to the enormous amount of diverse and unique opportunities that Meredith has to offer.”—Hannah Thornton, ’14

•“I loved Drawing 1; it was such a great time for me to relax and just do something I love, but also something that is challenging.” –Kristen Gallagher,’13

•“My first semester it would have to be my First Year Experience class. I loved the students that were in it and the professor was great! We were able to talk candidly and really get to know each other.” –Mary Rawls, ’13

•“Calculus! I really put all my effort in keeping up work and focusing myself into understanding calculus very well to the point where I could explain my reasoning in all of my problems to my study buddies and friends. I not only made an A but I also realized that I can reach my full potential in any class—even ones that are outside of my major, if I just keep up with work, constantly ask questions—any questions (there is no such thing as a dumb question!) and taking the imitative to reach out to my professor about ways of improving because everyone can always improve no matter how well we do in a class.”—Pooja Ghai, ’13

•“My favorite class during my freshman year was Western Civilization taught by Dr. Novak. He was just so funny. Who knew history could be that fun?” –Upama Karki, ’14

•“My favorite class first semester was Psychology of Children and Adolescents which I took as a general education course.” – Megan Amanatides, ’14

•“Oddly, my favorite class my first semester here was my honors biology class. The reason that is odd is because I am an interior design major but I loved biology in high school. It was fun re-learning things and learning new ones. Also, this was the class where I met many of my current best friends.”—Elizabeth Oates, ’13

•"My favorite class my first semester was Perspectives in Dance. It is an introductory class for all dance majors and minors. During it you experience several forms of dance and look at careers that are available in the art form. It was extremely helpful in making me aware that I had chosen the right major for me.”—Angel Jackson, ’13

•“My favorite class during my first semester of college was definitely First Year Experience (FYE). This class introduced me to the many resources available on campus and to resources available to me off campus. It also allowed me to get to know other first year students who had the same kinds of questions that I had. This was a great way to get to know people that I might not have otherwise met!”—Brittany Murray, ’13

•“I enjoyed all of my classes my freshman year, but the most enlightening for me was Dr. Novak’s Modern Western Civilization’s class. I always thought I did not like history classes, but being in his class made me think otherwise. His class really showed me what college is all about. The professors at Meredith are so enthusiastic about the subjects they teach, that the passion is hard to escape. Dr. Novak’s interest in history made me interested in the subject as well.”—Chloë Williams, ’13

•“My favorite class has been cell biology with Dr. Aghoram. There is something about the cell and how it works that is just fascinating as well as a bit scary.”—Shelby Wilson, ’14

•“My favorite class was my chorale class. I got to know the students that are now my best friends in it, and we all have a great time singing together.”—Sara Owens, ’15

•“My favorite class first semester was definitely Calculus II with Dr. Manning. The class was 50 minutes every day, and it was certainly very challenging; however, the daily routine was very comforting for me, and I greatly enjoyed the challenge.”—Amanda Hall, ’15
