Meredith Students Share Convention Experience with Local Media

While attending political conventions this month, Meredith College political science students have shared their experiences at these historic events with local media.

Five Meredith students attended the Republican Party’s convention in Cleveland, Ohio, July 18-21, and four students went to the Democratic Party convention in Philadelphia, Pa., July 25-28. They discussed their interest in politics and their impressions of the conventions. Highlights of this media coverage included stories on three Raleigh stations and The News & Observer.

Interviews with students at the Democratic National Convention were featured on WNCN and WTVD. Interviews with the students at the Republican National Convention were featured on WRAL, WNCN, and The News & Observer.

Meredith student Ann Cox, ’18, said she wanted to attend the Democratic National Convention because she’s been involved in politics since childhood.

“Many of my earliest memories involve attending political rallies, voter registration drives, and various events with family members,” Cox said. “I could not get enough of the people and what they had to say, and learned so much from them about the world, politics, and people. The same is still true, and getting to be in the middle of one of the most historic events of the party’s history is such an incredible learning experience.”
