Meredith Students Earn Spanish Business Certificate

Seven students from Meredith’s Business Spanish (SPA 301) course passed the Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid, Spain) exam, which earned them a Spanish Business Certificate. Earning the certificate expands the career opportunities available to them.

The students who earned certification are Maria Antonella Abad, Ariana Barcenas, Mary Johnson, Alexis Jones, Anna Landis, Andressia Ramirez, and Mary Strickland.

“Their success became my success because I was the one who proposed the curriculum and encouraged them to take the exam to show that they have the ability and the knowledge of Spanish in the business world,” said Instructor of Spanish Monica Ruiz. “It was a pleasure to be their advisor, manager, coach, and cheerleader.”

Ruiz teaches the course every other year. It is offered to Spanish majors and minors, as well as students minoring in international business or entrepreneurship and family business. The exam is open to anyone who would like to pursue certification in Spanish Business.

“With Monica’s guidance and enthusiasm, the SPA 301 students passed the Business Spanish exam, acquiring tangible and measureable skills that will make them desirable hires in a competitive job market,” said Veronique Machelidon, associate professor of foreign languages and literatures.
