Meredith Participating in RecycleMania 2010

During the spring semester, Meredith College will participate in RecycleMania, a national competition that promotes waste reduction at colleges and universities. Meredith has participated in RecycleMania since 2008.

The competition lasts from January 17-March 27, 2010.

Campus RecycleMania activities include:
•Pledge competition: Which class will have the most students pledge to increase their recycling and reduce waste? How many faculty and staff will pledge? Click here to sign. The winner will be announced before Spring break.
•Campus waste sort: On Thursday, January 28, 2010, volunteers will sort through 10% of campus trash, comparing findings to previous years.
•Mini waste audits: For five Fridays in February, volunteers will visit residence hall rooms and offices looking at individual recycling and trash bins of those willing to participate. Community members recycling correctly will be entered to win a prize.

To volunteer for the campus waste sort and/or the mini waste audits, contact Tabitha Underwood in the Office of Student Leadership and Service, at volunteerservices@meredith.edu. Thirty volunteers are needed for campus waste sort and three volunteers needed for each mini waste audit.

Monitor Meredith’s RecycleMania progress through updates on audit results and monthly recycling totals, which will be communicated via RecycleMania dorm representatives, sidewalk chalk, posters in residence halls and in Belk Dining Hall, the pledge poster in Cate Center and class announcements.
