Students participating in Meredith College’s 2013 study abroad program in Paris have all been hired for internships in the fashion industry.
Eleven students will complete internships during the month-long program in Paris. Four students will work at Elie Saab, two will work with menswear designer Alexandre Plokhov and five with menswear designer Rick Owens. Seven of the internships are paid positions, and all of them provide valuable experience in the field.
In addition to the internships, students complete courses in fashion and retailing at the Paris American Academy. The students are accompanied by Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Diane Ellis, Meredith’s fashion program coordinator, and Assistant Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Eunyoung Yang.
Top Fashion Program in the South
Opportunities such as the Paris trip helped Meredith College’s fashion program make the list of top fashion schools in the South. Meredith came in at number 10. The list was published in May by fashion-schools.org. More than 200 schools were considered for the list. The criteria for determining the list included “academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, and geographic location as it relates to cities considered to be fashion industry meccas.” Fashion-schools.org also listed Meredith College on its list of Top 75 Fashion Design Schools in the U.S. On this list, Meredith was in the top 30% of the country’s fashion design schools.
Meredith College offers majors in fashion merchandising and design. The fashion merchandising and design program at Meredith is unique because it effectively combines academics with industry. Students are encouraged to study abroad.
