Meredith Encore to Perform at Pentagon Event

Encore!, the Meredith College choral ensemble, has been asked to sing at a Pentagon event as part of the US Army G-8 Women's Recognition Symposium.

G-8 is an organization which is part of the Headquarters of the Department of the US Army, and is one of the 6 Deputy Chiefs of Staff offices that reports to the Vice Chief and Chief of Staff of the Army.

The symposium will be held on March 3, 2010. The event theme is "Women with Vision: Moving Beyond Our Position into Our Purpose.”

Encore!, Meredith’s elite small vocal ensemble, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Risa Poniros and accompanied on piano by Professor of Music Kent Lyman, will be performing jazz works, patriotic music, and musical theater selections for this prestigious program.

“The members of Encore! are looking forward to singing for some of the top women leaders in our country and we are very proud to have been asked to represent Meredith through this amazing opportunity,” said Poniros.

Upon their return from Washington, D.C., the group will present selections from their “Pentagon Program” for the Choral concert on Sunday, March 7, at Meredith College’s Jones Chapel at 3 p.m.
