Meredith Earns Second Place in NCICU Ethics Bowl

The Meredith College Ethics Bowl Team won second place at the N.C. Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) Ethics Bowl, held on February 17-18, 2017, at the N.C. Legislative Complex.

Meredith’s competition team members are Rachel Crawford, Caroline Garrett, Anna Mangum, Hannah Mangum, and Fareena Qamar.

Twenty-two teams from private colleges and universities from across the state participated in the event, which focused on an "Ethics in Law" theme.

The Meredith College Team won all four regular rounds of competition, which made them eligible to compete in the semifinal round against Chowan University. Montreat and Salem College were in the other semifinal round.

The only women’s colleges to participate, Meredith College and Salem College won their semifinal rounds and then competed in the final round.  Salem finished first and Meredith College finished second.

Director of Student Leadership and Service Cheryl Jenkins and Assistant Professor of Religious and Ethical Studies Steven Benko are the campus coordinators of the Meredith team.

NCICU began sponsoring an Ethics Bowl in 2012. The statewide competition gives students an opportunity to think instinctively and collaboratively about how to make ethical decisions. The goal of the event is to prepare students for the kind of ethical dilemmas they will face in the workplace while also giving them a chance to meet corporate, foundation, and government leaders from across the state.
