Meredith College to Host Symposium on World War I

Meredith College will host a symposium on World War I in April 2017.

The symposium, sponsored by Meredith’s Department of History, Political Science, and International Studies with support from the North Carolina Museum of History, is scheduled for April 6-8. The dates of the symposium are significant, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the United States entering World War I.

This interdisciplinary symposium will focus on the local, national, and global experience of World War I.

Organizers seek papers offering multiple perspectives on the conflict, from the front lines to the home fronts, addressing issues of politics, economics, race, gender, class, culture, and the military.

“The symposium will include presentations by scholars who have contributed to a book on North Carolina’s role in World War I history, but the symposium will have a broad, international, and interdisciplinary focus,” said Assistant Professor of History Angela Marritt, organizing committee co-chair. “We encourage colleagues with research related to World War I or the time period to participate.”

Submissions from both graduate and undergraduate students are also encouraged for specialized panels.
