Memorial Service for Dr. Wangari Maathai

On Sunday, October 2, 2011,members of the local Kenyan community will hold a memorial service celebrating the life of Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai. The service, which is open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in Jones Chapel.

Meredith students, faculty and staff are invited to this service, which will include walking to the tree planted by Dr. Maathai between Johnson and Joyner Halls on the occasion of her delivering Meredith's 2009 Lillian Parker Wallace Lecture. Participants are asked to bring ribbons that will be placed on the tree as a memorial tribute.
