The Meredith College athletic department announced on Thursday the appointment of Lauren Scott as its inaugural head lacrosse coach.
Scott will be charged to start and recruit for the inaugural varsity season of the sport at Meredith. The announcement was made on the Adam and Joe show on 99.9FM The Fan.
The Avenging Angels lacrosse team is set to begin varsity play in the spring of 2013 and will take on a full USA South Athletic Conference schedule.
Scott comes from Danbury (Conn.) High School where she served as the Varsity Lacrosse Coach since 2004. During her time there she took a team with a previous record of 2-14 to a Division II State Championship in five years as they took the title in 2008 under her leadership.
"I am very excited about our new lacrosse coach. She is a former DIII student-athlete with an incredible passion for the sport of lacrosse, and I am certain that passion will be contagious as we introduce lacrosse to the Meredith community. Her tremendous success at building a new program into a state contender at Danbury (CT) High School will soon be converted to doing the same at the college level as she begins her college coaching career at Meredith. We look forward to using our fantastic facility to develop one of the top programs in the USA South Athletic Conference," said Athletic Director Jackie Myers.
Scott’s playing career was at Western Connecticut State University where she played multiple positions and set school records in scoring, ground balls, caused turnover and points in a career and season. She is still currently second on Western Connecticut’s record in points in a season, points in a career and goals in a season. She pulled in many awards during her time as a player at Western Connecticut State including being named 2003 All-Conference Attack, 2002 All-Conference Mid-fielder, 2001 All-Conference Defender, and Player of the week honors (2001, 2002).
