Fall Alumnae Relations Events Draw More than 900 Participants

Throughout the fall, the Alumnae Relations office has hosted 30 events with more than 900 attendees collectively.

Popular chapter events included wine and design programs in Charlotte and Cary this fall. Anna Lisa Neiman, ’12, is the original artist of the Meredith onyx design. The Alumnae Relations office had such wonderful feedback that an event using the same painting design is planned for the Durham, Orange and Chatham county chapter in the spring. The event will be held at the Wine and Design Chapel Hill, which is owned by alumna Roslyn Troutman, ’91.

In addition to our regional chapter events, we have hosted the following events:

Networking Angels is a group that offers regular opportunities to network in a social setting. Each meeting highlights an alumna-owned business as well job seekers and success stories. The purpose of the group is to support fellow alumnae professionally. Our biggest fall event was held at the Governor’s mansion on October 10.

The Alumnae Travel program allows alumnae and friends to travel along with the Meredith community. MC in NYC is an annual trip to New York City each November. This fall, more than 50 alumnae and guests attended.

Meredith for Life is a four week mini-course taught by a retired faculty member. This fall Professor Emeritus of Religion Bernie Cochran presented this course on the topic of contemporary religious concepts. Thirty alumnae joined Dr. Cochran for this course.

Lunch and Learn is a lecture series featuring faculty, staff and friends. This fall’s offerings included holiday decorating and entertaining, campus traditions and history, and the summer reading book. In the spring, alumnae will have the option to attend the following sessions; Women’s leadership led by Associate Professor Jane Barnes, Where in the world is Meredith led by Brooke Shurer, director of international programs as well as alumnae and student travelers, and a garden and grounds tour led by Aaron Schettler, grounds manager.

Discover Meredith, held in conjunction with the Office of Admissions, encourages alumnae to participate in student recruitment. A group of 50 perspective students were joined by alumnae and their parents for a visitation day held on October 19.

The Meredith College Young Alumnae Board was established to promote the active involvement of recent graduates of the past 10 years in the life of the College. Each fall the Young Alumnae Board holds a family event and a social event. This fall over 30 families joined the Young Alumnae Board for their annual pumpkin painting and soccer match event.

Much like the fall, the Alumnae Office looks forward to an exciting spring calendar of events that will engage alumnae and friends in the life of the College.
