Faculty/Staff Accomplishments

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of members of Meredith's faculty and staff, from departments including art, communication, dance, music and more.

Instructor of Music Margaret Evans and Katherine Barton, a senior piano performance major, attended the Southeastern Piano Festival in June. Held on the campus of the University of South Carolina, this is one of the largest festivals of its kind, featuring performances, master classes and seminars.  The featured performer was Sergei Babayan, a world-renowned pianist who was guest performer at Meredith College in December 2008.

Associate Professor Woody Holliman will be presenting a paper, “Paradigm Lost: Rethinking Graphic Design History,” at the 2013 Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The conference will be held October 30-November 2.

Judy Peel, head of the Department of Nutrition, Health and Human Performance, was a co-presenter with NC Central University Assistant Professor Jay Jung, for a seminar on "Balancing Academics and Intercollegiate Athletics” to the Gyeongsangdukdo Sports Council, in South Korea, in June.

Professor of Dance Sherry Shapiro’s article “The Act of Making: Dance as Aesthetic Activism,” was published in “Choros,” the Greek International Dance Journal, this spring.

Associate Professor of Mass Communication Doug Spero continued his lecture series on broadcast news on the Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas cruise from Baltimore to the Bahamas this summer. In Bolivia, Spero presented an informal teaching seminar comparing the methods of teaching in Bolivia as compared to the United States. Participants were particularly interested in learning about broadcast news investigations.
