Faculty/Staff Accomplishments and Departmental News 9/20/17

In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff in dance, English, history, and political science. We also share news from the Department of History, Political Science, and International Studies.

Professor of Dance Alyson Colwell-Waber presented two sessions of “Mindfulness Through Movement & Breath,” an experiential workshop for public school and university arts educators as part of the ArtR4Life Conference on September 9.

Associate Professor of History Dan Fountain’s opinion piece about how Confederate monuments should be handled was published in The Durham Herald-Sun.

Professor of Political Science David McLennan spoke to the Concerned Citizens of Blowing Rock about women’s political engagement heading into 2018. In addition, he spoke to the Wake County Democratic Men about lessons learned from the 2016 elections. McLennan also spoke to the Twin Counties League of Women Voters on the status of women in North Carolina politics and to the Bedford Over 55 club about what we should expect in politics heading into the midterm elections. Finally, he had two opinion pieces published in national outlets: on Republican challenges in passing health care reform and on the decline of policy argument during the Trump presidency.

Associate Professor of English Kelly Morris Roberts has a paper accepted for the journal Teaching for High Potential. Her paper, “Reflection as Praxis and Practice: Self Understanding, Growth, and Gifted Education,” is scheduled for publication in 2018-19.

History, Political Science, and International Studies Week

Meredith’s Department of History, Political Science, and International Studies is holding a special week celebrating its majors. History, Political Science, and International Studies Week continues through Sept. 22. 2017.
