Earth Week to Feature Wind Panel Discussion

Meredith College will celebrate Earth Week 2012 with events on campus and in the community, April 17-20.

Highlights include a panel discussion on NC offshore wind power and an energy competition for Meredith residence halls.

"First in Flight, First in Wind" Panel Discussion
The N.C. Sierra Club, N.C. Interfaith Power & Light, and Meredith College will present “First in Flight, First in Wind,” a public forum on offshore wind development in North Carolina on Wednesday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.

Panelists include John Bane, professor of marine sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill; Marcilynn Burke, acting assistant secretary of the Department of the Interior; Art Howard, award-winning photographer and videographer of “Earth: The Operator’s Manual”; Brian O’Hara, president of the North Carolina Offshore Wind Coalition; Rep. Deborah Ross, NC House of Representatives District 38; and Jon Williams, assistant secretary for energy, N.C. Department of Commerce. "Lights Off, Party On" Energy Savings Competition
On Friday, April 20, Residence Halls will compete in an all-day energy competition called Lights Off, Party On.

Residents will battle to see who can save the most energy on April 20 and the winning hall will be rewarded with a Krispy Kreme party during exam week.

While the lights are off indoors, students can participate in an Earth Week party in the Science and Mathematics Building Courtyard. The event begins at 8 p.m. and includes a showing of Wall-E, pizza and an opportunity to win prizes.
