Clothing Drive Results In More Than 600 Items

A month-long clothing drive held in conjunction with President Maureen Hartford’s Blue Cross and Blue Shield Lecture on February 28, has collected approximately 675 items to benefit local women’s organizations. Individual items of clothing, shoes, and accessories as well as resume paper and thumb drives were collected for Dress for Success and Abbeygail’s Closet.

During February, Meredith College collected clothing and monetary donations for Dress for Success and Abbeygail’s Closet, organizations that focus on supporting women in the local community. This project emphasized the importance of women’s leadership and helped to make an impact on the lives of local women.

The Triangle affiliate of Dress for Success, started by Meredith alumna Pat Nathan, provides disadvantaged women with professional attire and employment assistance. Abbeygail’s Closet is a local thrift store managed by the Women’s Center of Wake County. It is the social enterprise of the organization and exists to fund their programs and services that include assistance to low income and homeless women and children in Wake County.

The project was coordinated by the Office of Student Leadership and Service and the Major Events Committee.
