Biblical Scholar Bart Ehrman will present “Who Wrote the Bible?: Modern Scholars on the Authors of the New Testament” at Meredith College on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011. The lecture will be held at 5 p.m. in Jones Chapel.
Ehrman is James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is the author of more than 20 books, including three New York Times bestsellers: “Misquoting Jesus,” “God's Problem” and “Jesus Interrupted.”
Ehrman is a leading authority on the New Testament and the history of early Christianity. His work has been featured in Time, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and other print media, and he has appeared on NBC's Dateline, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, CNN, The History Channel, National Geographic, the Discovery Channel, the BBC, major NPR shows, and other top media outlets. His books have been translated into 27 languages.
This event is presented by The Mary Frances Preston Lecture in Biblical Studies Fund and The Staley Lecture in Religion Fund. The Mary Frances Preston lectureship's goal is to bring to campus prominent speakers in biblical interpretation, with the goal of helping students, faculty, and staff discuss the intersection of faith and scholarship. The Mary Frances Preston Lecture in Biblical Studies was made possible by funding initiated by Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Barham, Jr. in honor of Mary Frances Johnson Preston.
