Avenging Angels Victorious!

The Meredith basketball team defeated cross-town rival William Peace in a road contest on January 30. With a 13-point lead midway through the second half, the Avenging Angels fought off a late charge from the Pacers to win 62-60. Junior leader McKenzi Edwards drained a pair of free throws with one second remaining in the game to shutout Peace.

William Peace and Meredith return to action Wednesday, February 19, in a 7 p.m. tip-off in Weatherspoon Gym. Sophomore student-athlete Raven Gregory created “Angels Supporting Athletics,” a pep rally to recruit a student fan base for the game. Gregory hopes to generate excitement to maintain consistent support for athletics from her Meredith sisters.

Three teams are in action next weekend. Basketball closes the regular season playing host to Greensboro Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. followed by Senior Day Sunday afternoon with the Averett Cougars. The softball Angels host the Triangle Classic Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23, with three games scheduled each day, and lacrosse takes the Meredith turf field Wednesday, Feb. 26, versus Virginia Wesleyan at 5 p.m. just as the work day ends.

The Athletics department recently announced the new course selection for this year’s Annual Golf Tournament. Players will enjoy the Arnold Palmer signature course at Brier Creek Country Club Monday, April 7. The shotgun start at 1 p.m. includes lunch, snacks, a silent auction, and cookout.

The Meredith community is encouraged to support this event as a player, volunteer, hole sponsor, or booster. Contact Tournament Director/Head Volleyball Coach Fiona Barkley with questions or register online at goavengingangels.com/golfclassic. Register by February 28 and receive a 10% discount!
