Author Pat Conroy Visits Meredith College

Author Pat Conroy discussing his latest book at Meredith College

Best-selling author Pat Conroy read from his latest work at Meredith College on December 12, 2013. The sold-out event was sponsored by the Friends of the Carlyle Campbell Library and Quail Ridge & Books and Music.

Well known for The Prince of Tides and South of Broad, Conroy returned to Raleigh with a memoir, The Death of Santini: The Story of a Father and His Son. Most Conroy fans know his father as the inspiration for the fierce disciplinarian of The Great Santini. In his new memoir, Pat Conroy recounts how his father changed in the years following the storm of The Great Santini, and how they reconciled.

Quail Ridge Books store owner Lisa Poole, a Meredith College alumna, welcomed the audience to the event. Author Cassandra King, Conroy’s wife, introduced the author.

Conroy shared stories from his family life, including some of their reactions to his books. He also shared humorous anecdotes from his experiences at readings across the country.

Meredith’s Friends of the Carlyle Campbell Library regularly hosts readings and other special events. Up next, also in partnership with Quail Ridge Books, is a reading by author Sue Monk Kidd. She will visit campus on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 7 p.m. with her new novel, The Invention of Wings. For more information on this event, visit the Quail Ridge Books website.
