Assoc. Professor of Economics News Commentary on Workplace Gender Equality

Johnson Hall at Meredith College

Associate Professor of Economics Anne York offered expert commentary for a story about a recent Gallup Poll about whether employees prefer to work for a female or male boss. The article was posted on MainStreet.com, part of The Street financial media company, on November 14, 2013.

The poll finds that more Americans than ever prefer a female boss. York, an expert on gender equality in the workplace, said the more important trend is the percentage who responded that they have no gender preference.

"That percentage has unfortunately been getting smaller recently. I am hopeful that we as a society will eventually get to a point where 100% of the workers have no preference because they view their bosses as individuals and not with a gender stereotype."
