IV. Thanks to the K-6 supervisors who turned in Form S for the Fall 2006 student teachers.  We have a new Human Resources contact at WCPSS who has been great in getting us the signed Form S from cooperating teachers.  We are going to trust that he will continue to be so prompt, and will not need to get the Form S signed by the cooperating teachers.  Let’s see how it works out this semester.

Text Box: Welcome back for the spring 2007 semester. We appreciate your willingness to supervise teacher interns (Thanks, Cornelius!), and hope that we have made it easier for you to do so this semester.
CHANGES, CHANGES
The new Internship Handbook is ready for this semester. There have been some changes to the handbook that I hope you notice.
 1. The new mission and goals + the new graphic for the Conceptual Framework. The beliefs described in the Conceptual Framework have not changed, but the “star” is gone, replaced by the globe. The globe acknowledges the College’s focus on its global place in the world, our belief that we are developing teachers to interact in a classroom that should be more global in focus, and that supports the new North Carolina State Board priority that supports the concept that “every public school student will graduate from high school, globally competitive for work and postsecondary education and prepared for life in the 21st century.” It appears that the Board was following Meredith College’s lead.
II. The ISTE-NETS standards are included in the handbook along with possible artifacts that can be included in the professional portfolio. Although students receive this during EDU 241, some forget how to access the information. Also included are the guidelines for the professional portfolio.
III. Lesson Planning: Closure and its description have been added to the lesson planning page.
Text Box: IV. What If There Is A Problem? The information in this section has been more clearly defined based on the area of licensure, along with clearer guidelines for termination of student teaching.
V. Not only included in the Appendix are the guidelines, rubric, and the evaluation form for the Professional Teaching Portfolio, but also a more user friendly Self-Assessment for Teacher Interns and a sample Action Plan. In addition, The new (TCER) Teacher Candidate Evaluation Instrument (Midterm and Final) and the rubric to direct our evaluations are housed in the Appendix.

We are hoping that the new Handbook makes information more accessible and user-friendly.

Other Changes
1. All midterms (student, cooperating teacher, and education supervisor) + final evaluations should be handed into the office at the end of student teaching.
II. Feel free to ask the cooperating teacher/content area supervisor to assist in the assessment of the professional portfolio. Having another pair of eyes evaluate the portfolio includes them in the process. If the cooperating teacher/subject area supervisor evaluates, please ask them to sign off on the evaluation form.
III. Midterms, final evaluations, and professional portfolio evaluations + portfolios should be in the SOE office, Ledford 207, by Wednesday, May 16, 2008.
