Text Box: Supervisors’ Newsletter—Fall 2007
Text Box: Welcome back for the fall 2007 semester. We continue to appreciate your willingness to supervise teacher interns and teach our students. We hope that you have a great semester.
CHANGES, CHANGES
The Internship Handbook was a success last spring. Thanks to the sharp eyes of Cornelius again, we hope that it has consistent language. Continue to review the handbook for ways to improve it.
I. A new configuration for us. We are the Department of Education, a part of the School of Education, Health, and Human Sciences. As you know last spring, we were absorbed into another school. The members of the department supported this move, and thus far, the move appears to be positive. Our Dean, Marie Chamblee, supports the teacher education program wholeheartedly, and we are pleased with our new configuration, thus far.
A new Chair of the Department. A part of the new configuration was the appointment of a Chair. Mary Kay Delaney is back with us after serving as principal Immaculata Catholic School in Durham. Those of you who remember Mary Kay also remember that the last time Text Box: she was on the faculty at Meredith, we were going through NCATE/NCDPI accreditation. And, she is back to lead us through another accreditation visit this fall.
II. Accreditation Visit—The two teams, NCATE and NCDPI, will be on campus Saturday, October 20 to Wednesday, October 24, 2007. The NCATE (5 members) team will be based in 213 Ledford; NCDPI team (16 members) will be in 211 Ledford. More information will be forthcoming once the details are worked out.
III. From the feedback, The Teacher Candidate Evaluation Rubric was received positively. We encourage you to continue to give us feedback on the language of the evaluation instrument, and ask cooperating teachers to do the same. We are working to be sure that interns understand the language also.
IV. Portfolios are gradually moving from CDs to Digital Locker, where you can access them online. Interns will be able to give you a web address (URL) that you can type into your computer, and view their portfolio. This semester the CD is still required, but students will be able to put their portfolio online, also. Encourage cooperating teachers to join you in assessing the portText Box: Important Dates (cont’d)
