The Cherokee were one of the Five Civilized Tribes, so-called
because of how they had adapted to 19th century Southern white customs.
They lived in cabins, farmed, ran businesses, and even owned slaves. But
President Jackson would insist on removing the Cherokee west to Oklahoma
territory. What law was passed to remove the Cherokee? What was the vote?
Who opposed Jackson's removal policy? When were the Cherokee removed & to
where exactly. What was the journey like for the Cherokee? Did many die on
the Trail of Tears? And were other tribes also removed? What about those
other Trails of Tears?
