The American Indians of the Southeast are a varied population. They
include the great mound-building peoples along the valleys of Southern
rivers. They are the tribes who knew the coastal and swamp
environments of Florida and the woodland environments of the
Carolinas. They were great traders and hunters. They grew corn
in such abundance they could feed cities of 20,000 or more, long
before Europeans came to the continent. Early on they were hunters of the
Mammoth, and later we know some of them as the Five Civilized tribes: the
Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Creek, and
Chickasaw. But that is not all.... |
