Grave Creek Mound

Up

Whoah!  This is big. It was once measured at nearly 70 feet in height. And it was built by American Indians carrying baskets full of earth -- one by one.  Okay, it's a "mound,"  but what kind of mound is it? Why was it built and when?  Who built it?  Just how large is it?  Where exactly is it, and who is protecting it?

This monument is a sort of text left by people who had no written language. What can we conclude about the ancient Indians who made this?  What were they thinking about life and death?
