Pueblo emergence

Up

Traditional Pueblo stories say that the first people came to the surface of the earth through a hole in the ground.  This place of birthing out of the ground, or sipapu, is held sacred in many ways.  It is symbolized in the construction of kivas (places of traditional worship). The actual land understood as the place of emergence is regarded as a shrine by each Pueblo, and the location of the actual place of emergence is often kept secret.

Before the emergence onto earth surface, where did the People live? What was their earlier life like? What does the term "Fourth World" mean to Pueblo people?

This topic has to do with cosmology and with Pueblo stories of their origins.  Interested in mythology, world views, stories of creation, non-western art, religion?  This is another good topic & it has links to kivas & to Taos Pueblo (Blue Lake).
