Capital City Girls Choir
The Capital City Girls Choir is an achievement-based vocal and music training program for girls from Raleigh, North Carolina, and the surrounding communities. CCGC is associated with the community outreach program of the School of Music at Meredith College, which has been educating women to excel since 1899. The three choirs of the organization are open to singers from ages nine through eighteen. They have performed at the North Carolina Governor's Mansion, the NC Museum of Art, the White House, Washington National Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral and St. Paul's in London and at various venues in British Columbia. In 2002, CCGC was featured as the Honor Choir in the Children in Harmony Festival at Walt DisneyWorld. In the summer of 2004, they performed John Rutter's Mass of the Children, which was conducted by the composer. Choir members have performed with other such noted conductors as Jean Ashworth Bartle, David Brunner, Joan Gregory, Barbara Tagg, Z. Randall Stroope, Lynn Gackle, Henry Leck.
Fran Page, Founder and Conductor, is Head of the Music Department and Professor of Music Education at Meredith College, where she teaches methods courses for music education majors and K-6 teacher licensure students. Dr. Page is Past President of the Southern Division of the National Association for Music Education. She is sought after as a clinician for choral festivals and for workshops in the areas of curriculum integration and arts curriculum planning and assessment.
Amy Brock Davis is in her second year as Associate Conductor for the Girls Chorale. She received the BA from Meredith College in 1992 and the MM in Choral Directing from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Davis is a National Board Certified Teacher specializing in early adolescence through young adulthood choral music. She has taught in middle and high schools in Roanoake Rapids and Durham and was the co-director of DPS Spotlight Singers. Summers find her coordinating middle school activities for the North Carolina Summer Institute in Choral Art in Boone, NC. While a student at Meredith, she was an assistant to Dr. Page and the Girls Chorus.
