Meredith Students Working to Fund Habitat Home
Meredith College’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter is working to raise enough money for the College to sponsor a Habitat home.
To fully fund a Habitat home, the student organization will need to raise $75,000.
One of the group’s fundraising methods has been to sell Meredith birdhouses. Meredith’s Habitat club members, as well as other student volunteers, have built the houses. There are two designs available, and each sells for $25.
Meredith student Hayley McPhail, ’08, is the president of Meredith’s Habitat Chapter. She founded the organization in 2006, after being involved with NC State’s student chapter.
According to McPhail, there are many volunteer opportunities relating to the Habitat for Humanity effort.
In addition to construction work days, Meredith’s chapter also hopes to be involved with tutoring and mentor programs. Through these opportunities, Meredith students would work with the children of Habitat homeowners.
McPhail also plans for the Habitat effort to be part of the November 17 MeredithServes event, which has a focus on hunger and homelessness.
Habitat for Humanity volunteer opportunities are available to all Meredith community members.
