Sustaining our Environment: Developing our Greenprint
Each year, Meredith’s campus comes together to explore an issue of global importance. We believe that learning is a lifelong endeavor – which is one reason our whole campus plays a part in exploring the campus theme. It’s also an effective way of cultivating the strong sense of community that is a defining characteristic of the College.
In 2008-09, we’ll focus on one of the most pressing matters of our time: the environment. Meredith’s Student Government Association addressed this theme initially with their “Campaign for a Greener Meredith” that began in 2006. Over the coming academic year, class work, campus activities and even service-learning opportunities will all relate to the environmental theme.
Here are some ways for you to participate in our campus theme:
- The Summer Reading Program kicks off our campus theme each year. This year’s selection is “An Inconvenient Truth,” by Al Gore.
- The Presidential Lecture Series, which is free and open to the public exposes the entire community to new ways of thinking about critical issues.
- Check out the list of upcoming events, classes, exhibits. Come back and visit often, as this list will be updated regularly. New options are being added all the time!
- Environmental Tips will be published weekly during the academic year through Enews. Do your part by implementing some of these easy ideas for greener living. Tips will become available in August.
