“The Odd Couple” Production to Benefit Local Non-Profit
Meredith College’s professional theatre company-in-residence Stillwater Theatre’s upcoming production of the female version of “The Odd Couple” will benefit the Women’s Center of Wake County, Inc.
Production dates for the show are April 12-14 (Monday off) and April 17-21 at 8 p.m., and April 15 and 22 at 2 p.m., in Meredith College’s Studio Theatre.
Stillwater Theatre will spotlight WCWC each night before the show with a curtain speech, informational pamphlets in each playbill and a multi-media display in the lobby.
All ticket proceeds for the April 18 performance will benefit The Women’s Center of Wake County, Inc., a local non-profit organization that supports homeless women. The Center’s staff and volunteers serve as strong advocates and service providers for women who are homeless or at-risk of becoming homeless.
“Stillwater Theatre is proud to be working with this organization in spotlighting the issue of women and homelessness,” said Steven Roten, Stillwater Theatre artistic director. “After all, not every woman has a place to go when she finds herself unexpectedly homeless.”
Neil Simon’s laugh-riot classic, “The Odd Couple” has been given the feminine touch. Adapting his script from the play that made his career, Neil Simon investigates the conditions of friendship minus the testosterone.
Felix and Oscar have been transformed into Florence and Olive in the retelling of this comedic caper. Florence breaks up unexpectedly with her husband, and moves in with her friend Olive, but the problems start there. Florence is an anal retentive, neurotic neat-freak, whereas Olive is pretty much a slob. Side-splitting drama and chaos ensues, as the two very different ladies try to get past their differences while living together in the same apartment.
Tickets are $7 for students & seniors, $15 for adults, and free for Meredith College students, faculty and staff.
