Meredith’s Teaching Fellows Program Receives Praise
The Teaching Fellows Program at Meredith College has recently received praise from the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission.
A letter to Meredith President Maureen A. Hartford in response to Meredith’s Teaching Fellows Program 2006-07 annual report, reads in part “After reviewing the report, the Commission identified several efforts and initiatives worthy of recognition.”
These efforts included the expansion of cultural experiences for Teaching Fellows, an increased number of opportunities to work with a diverse student population and the continued use of Meredith alumnae as mentors.
The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program is a renowned scholarship program for qualified North Carolina resident students who agree to teach in a North Carolina public school for four years following graduation.
At Meredith, Teaching Fellows participate in a seminar series, a program of cultural events and activities, student teacher experiences, a mentor teacher program, community service and a required study abroad experience. Meredith recently welcomed 25 new Teaching Fellows as part of the Class of 2011.
