Meredith Earns Race for the Cure Team Award
Meredith College, which hosted the 11 th annual N.C. Triangle Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 9, earned the award for largest college team.
The "Meredith Cares" team had 147 participants, a record-number for Meredith, according to team co-chair Cricket McCoy, assistant director of admissions. Last year's team, which had 129 members, was the College's previous largest team.
McCoy, a breast cancer survivor, was pleased with the turnout.
"Every year it grows bigger and bigger," McCoy said. "The day is filled with affirmation after affirmation, and it was great to see how many people wanted to experience the spirit of the day."
The Meredith team members were among the more than 22,000 participants in the Race for the Cure. More than $1.5 million was raised to fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment projects. Meredith College has hosted the event in each of the years it has been held in the Triangle.
"Meredith Cares" team members received a team shirt designed by Brandi Bowen, a graphic design major at Meredith. The t-shirts are donated by Aramark, which provides dining and other services for Meredith College.
The NC Triangle Race for the Cure benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure , a global leader in the fight against breast cancer. With nearly $1 billion invested to date, Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to curing breast cancer at every stage.
