Meredith Alumnae Receive Philanthropy Award
Meredith College alumnae Rebekah Meek, '05, and Laura Williams, '04, have been recognized for their philanthropic work to support Sri Lanka following the December 2004 tsunami.
Meek and Williams received the 2005 Outstanding Youth Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Triangle Chapter. The award was presented on November 17 during the Association's National Philanthropy Day Awards Celebration.
The pair was nominated by Meredith College Professor of English Betty Webb. Meek and Williams traveled with Webb to Sri Lanka as part of Meredith's "Tide of Hope" tsunami relief campaign. They have used their art, through photography and a documentary film, to draw attention to Sri Lanka and raise funds to support relief efforts there.
