Our Bodies Ourselves (OBOS) Executive Director Judy Norsigian will speak at Meredith College on Wednesday, March 14 at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.

Norsigian will discuss stem cell research and its implications for women’s health in a lecture titled “Women's Health and the Media: Sorting Fact from Fiction.”The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will be followed by a reception sponsored by Meredith’s Center for Women in Science and Mathematics.

A co-founder of OBOS, also known as the Boston Women’s Health Book Collective (BWHBC) and co-author of all editions of “Our Bodies, Ourselves,” Norsigian is a graduate of Radcliffe College and an internationally renowned speaker and writer on a wide range of women’s health concerns.  Her interests include national health care reform, tobacco and women, midwifery advocacy, reproductive health, genetic technologies and contraceptive research.  She has appeared on numerous television and radio programs including “Oprah” and “The Today Show.”

OBOS is a nonprofit, public interest women’s health education, advocacy and consulting organization. Beginning in 1970 with the publication of the first edition of “Our Bodies, Ourselves”and continuing for more than 35 years, OBOS has inspired the women’s health movement.

While on campus, Norsigian will also present a lecture, “Egg Donation and Research Cloning: Special Risks to Women’s Health,” for Meredith students.

Norsigian’s visit is part of Meredith’s observation of Women’s History Month. The event is sponsored by Women’s Studies, the Center for Women in Science and Mathematics, with support from the Department of Religion and Philosophy’s Gullick Lecture Fund.
