Meredith Interior Design Students Place in Two Competitions
Four interior design students were awarded second place in the National Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) Student Competition at a conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., on April 1, 2006. Miho Elliott, Courtnay Borleske, Michelle Griffin and Carly Kanupp entered an eight-hour competition to produce their project, "Generations at Work." The design outlined work areas for intergenerational coworkers.
The competition is open to all interior design programs in the United States. Elliott, Borleske, Griffin and Kanupp were chosen from the South region to compete at the national level where they competed against students from 14 other schools. Their project was an assignment in Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Ellen Goode's Contract Interior Design course.
Meredith interior design students took the top three places in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Otto Zenke Undergraduate Student Competition. Miho Elliott, Laurie Padden and Courtnay Borleske took first, second and third places respectively.
The competition took place at the Carolinas Chapter of ASID spring conference in Raleigh on April 8, 2006. There were 25 entries. The competition is open to all interior design programs in North Carolina and South Carolina that have student chapters of ASID. The competition focused on the hypothetical development of a retail space and model condominium in a new urban environment in a coastal Carolina community.
A cash prize was awarded to all three students, and the College was awarded $750 to match Elliott's first place award.
Each student entered an individual project completed in Professor of Human Environmental Sciences Martha Burpitt's Interior Design IV course.
