Meredith to Host Interact College Awareness Campaign Kick-off

As part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Interact will hold a College Awareness Campaign Kickoff event at Meredith College on Wednesday, April 11.  This event is sponsored by the Meredith Chapter of Psi Chi Honor Society.

Interact is a private, nonprofit United Way agency that provides safety, support, and awareness to victims and survivors of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault. The organization’s 2007 theme is “Rape: Shatter the Silence! Every Victim Has a Voice.”

According to Interact, rape is the most underreported violent crime in America. In fact, 61% of rape victims choose not to use their voice. But yet, a rape occurs every eight minutes.

To help bring attention to sexual assault, Interact will hold its College Awareness Campaign Kick-Off for Sexual Assault Awareness Month at Meredith on April 11 from 12:30-4 p.m. in Cate Student Center.

The event will feature apresentation by Interact’s new Rape Prevention Educator, a survivor’s story, screening of documentary video, Rape Is, and a self-defense demonstration.

The event is free and open to the Meredith campus community. Participants can stay for all or part of the event.
