Health Issues Week Scheduled for February 12-16
By Ann Gleason, Dean of Students
Meredith faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in a College-wide Health Issues Week scheduled for Valentine’s Week, February 12-16. The theme of the week is “Our Bodies, Our Responsibilities.” Activities and events will focus on incorporating healthy behaviors and choices into our busy lifestyles.
Health Issues Week kicks off with a presentation, “Taking Steps in the Right Direction,” by Susan Drury-Rohner, adjunct faculty member at Meredith College and an exercise physiologist at Rex Wellness Center. Free pedometers will be distributed to all attendees and healthy refreshments will be provided.
Other activities include a nutritional food demo; exercise classes in yoga, aerobics, aquatic fitness and resistaballs; heart-healthy displays and blood pressure screenings; a smoking cessation program; CPR training and certification; and a walk around the Meredith mile followed by a program and raffle.
Members of the Meredith community will receive a full schedule of the week’s events and activities along with a healthy lifestyle newsletter during the week of February 5.
Partial funding for Health Issues Week was provided by the LeaderShape® Vision Fund, which is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Corporation and the Meredith College Division for Student Development.
