Meredith Student Receives Gilman Study Abroad Scholarship

Meredith College student Angenette Burns has been chosen to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. The award will be applied toward study abroad in Ankara, Turkey, for the 2007-08 academic year.

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.

This congressionally funded program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and is administered by the Institute of International Education--Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.

During the Fall 2007/Academic Year 2007-2008 application cycle, the Gilman Scholarship Program received 1,422 applications for 420 possible awards.

Burns, a rising junior from Elizabethtown, N.C., has also earned the Robert B. Bailey Scholarship from the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).
