Meredith to Hold Constitution Day Event
By Melyssa Allen
Meredith College will hold a Constitution Day event on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.
The event will include a viewing of a video-cast of a debate on "Free Speech in the Digital Age." The debate comes from National Public Radio's Justice Talking.
The program will examine the reasons for both safeguarding and limiting speech, including protection of minors and community safety, ensuring a free marketplace of ideas, and guaranteeing democratic institutions–an excellent start for discussion on First Amendment freedoms.
Meredith faculty members Clyde Frazier, professor of politics, and Doug Spero, assistant professor of communication, will lead a discussion after the film.
Constitution Day is officially September 17.
