Meredith College’s location in Raleigh, N.C., has recently earned another positive review. The city has been chosen by “Forbes” for the top spot on the magazine’s “Best Cities for Jobs” list.

According to Meredith Career Center Director Marie Sumerel, the Raleigh area is home an increasing number of companies that are “attracted to the diversity of companies represented, the educated population, and the lifestyle one can enjoy here.”

Meredith College students and graduates benefit from the area’s strong job market.

Sumerel said as companies arrive, “they make connections with the colleges and universities,” citing a new partnership Meredith has with Credit Suisse. Meredith is one of only four North Carolina colleges that have developed an internship program with the financial services company. Two Meredith students were selected as interns, and the Credit Suisse also hired an MBA graduate for a full-time position.

The Career Center offers several opportunities throughout the year to support students in their job search, including employer information sessions, career panels and on-campus interviews.

“The Career Center works continuously to develop relationships with employers,” Sumerel said.

Career fairs are also sponsored by the Career Center, including the annual Spring Career Fair on February 28. Meredith is one of seven private colleges hosting the event, at which 86 employers and graduate schools will be present to speak with students and graduates about internships, cooperative education, full-time jobs and graduate school programs.
