The official logo of Meredith College will be unveiled during a celebration of the College’s athletics programs on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 4 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.

The celebration will be emceed by NBC-17 sports anchor Maya Starks, the area’s only female sports broadcaster.

In addition to the unveiling, the event will recognize each of Meredith’s six athletics teams and celebrate Meredith’s official entrance into the USA South Athletic Conference.

In 1980, the angel was endorsed as Meredith’s mascot by the Student Government Association Executive Committee, but there has never been an official angel logo for use in athletics.

In the fall of 2006, a committee was established to examine the College’s athletics identity, in preparation for joining the USA South Conference. (Click here to view timeline.)

After gathering opinions from Meredith constituents through various avenues, including messages from electronic submissions, meetings with alumnae groups, updates from the student-athlete advisory committee and a Student Government forum, the decision was made to keep the Angel in the College’s athletics nickname.

Throughout the spring and summer, the athletics identity committee has worked with designers to create the College’s first official athletics identity. The logo and identity package will be used on athletics items such as uniforms and publications.

Input from Meredith student athletes, alumnae leaders, faculty and staff has helped shape the final selection. The entire campus community is invited to see the official logo at the athletics celebration on August 22. Everyone who attends the event will receive a T-shirt featuring the new logo.
