Meredith Students Host Halloween Event in Sansepolcro
Meredith College study abroad students hosted a Halloween party at The Palazzo Alberti, the College’s location in Sansepolocro, Italy.
Meredith students who are doing service learning projects in local elementary schools invited their students to attend. Nearly 100 children participated in the event. The palazzo was appropriately decorated by Meredith’s students for the occasion.
International Programs Director Betty Webb shared the following account of the event, and Meredith’s participation in a local tradition.
“The children and their parents reported having a great time—with a Trick or Treat station as well as a Go Fishing station rivaling the pasta necklace and the Trick or Treat bag decoration centers for most popular feature.
Having shared with our Italian friends a bit of US culture, on November 1, we went to the local cemetery to share in the Ognissanti tradition of cleaning family graves and placing candles and fresh flowers on them. Though the holiday remembers the dead, the presence of many Sansepolcrans carrying flowers and greeting friends in their longstanding burial site made for a lively and beautiful scene.”
While they are abroad, Meredith students are sending frequent reflections in a journal format for Meredith’s website. Click here to read the students’ journals.
