Meredith Choral Groups Present Halloween-themed Concert On Sunday, October 31, 2010, the 65 student performers who comprise The Meredith Chorale, Meredith Chorus, and Encore! presented their annual Fall concert in Jones Chapel. With dancing ghosts, bouncing balls, costumed conductors, and hostesses who passed out buckets of candy, the more than 400 concert attendees enjoyed both tricks and treats during this Halloween-themed performance. The Meredith Chorus, conducted by Danny Green, opened the hour long concert with Ghosts in the Chapel, a piece based on the theme song for the 1984 hit film Ghostbusters. Green, associate vice president for enrollment at Meredith, holds Bachelor of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Miami. Tricia Strong, a Meredith faculty member since 2006, led the Encore!, an eight member A cappella group, as they performed four songs that “focused on the sweet side of Halloween.” The group’s opening number, Trick or Treat Suite, was a musical arrangement by Chelsea Stith, ’11, of songs heard on candy commercials from the 1930s through the 1980s. The Meredith Chorale, conducted by Fran Page, head of Meredith’s music department and coordinator of music education, concluded the concert with four pieces focused on mystical creatures. Two of the pieces performed by the Chorale, Fairies and Che faceste? Dite Su!, which was performed in Italian, were inspired by Shakespeare’s plays. The Meredith Chorale, Chorus and Encore!, along with the Meredith Sinfionetta, will perform Winterfest Concerts on Sunday, December 5 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.
